CORREL Rail completed the Notified Body certification of the Class 390 Virgin Pendolino Trains to the High Speed Interoperability Directive which will allow them to operate as the first ever UK tilting 125mph train in passenger service.
The core business of CORREL Rail is the independent scrutiny and assessment of traction and rolling stock design and maintenance instructions known as verification and the independent assurance that a product has been built to an identified and verified design referred to as validation. This process is commonly known as Independent Verification and Validation, or IV&V.
At the very heart of the CORREL Rail process is a unique and effective Vehicle Breakdown Structure against which requirements, be they customer, UK, European or other recognised standards, can be disseminated into system or sub system requirement packages. The CORREL Rail processes were developed to be rigorous, user friendly but not requirement specific, to ensure that the process works for any given set of requirement criteria.

CORREL Rail offers a wide range of services, associated with all the major acceptance processes, including Notified Body (Interoperability), Engineering Acceptance, Route Acceptance and the new Rail Industry Supplier Approval Scheme approvals.
CORREL Rail is at the heart of the development of European rolling stock certification practices through its involvement on both national committees and its role as technical secretariat of the NB Rail Sub-Group Rolling Stock. This group's remit is to interpret, revise and recommend ways of implementing the new High Speed and Conventional Directives' methods of assessment and certification using the EU standardised module approach. CORREL Rail was the first Notified Body to issue a certificate for a rolling stock upgrade in the whole of the EU, relating to the Class 390 Tilting Pendolino.
